Vietnam Veterans of America, Sandpoint Chapter 890
Our General Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 1800 hours (6pm), in the Sandpoint VFW Hall at the corner of Pine and Division. We have much camaraderie and brotherhood, and a potluck too, but no alcohol or war stories!
The majority of our operational business is conducted separately by the Board of Directors. BoD actions and committee progress are then reported to the General Meeting, and items that require general membership approval are submitted for a vote.
The General Meeting is a 60-90 minute Board of Directors Report & Confirmation Briefing. The meeting begins at 1800 hours (6:00) with the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Some meetings do go longer when business demands. You are cordially invited to attend.
We are in service to veterans and the public. The following list describes the greater part of what we do.
We provide connections to a counselor, who may also hold PTSD classes as well as partner and couple classes.
We help veterans and their families who may have a difficult time getting their firewood in for the season, from a supply donated by community service loggers, as well as others who perform this duty. We cut and split it, and coordinate pickup.
We provide some assistance with utilities, food, rent/mortgage, transportation, and construction projects for veterans and deployed active duty veterans families, within limits and as money is available.
We participate in or provide Military honors for funerals.
We participate in Memorial Day and 9/11 ceremonies, and the local 4th of July Parade.
We provide funds for community projects as we deem fitting, and we have a scholarship program.
We donate to charities such as Coats for kids, and we often provide meals to help veterans at Christmas.
We man booths at the County Fair and the annual Gun & Horn Show.
Our major Service Event of the year is the annual Stand Down at the Bonner County Fairgrounds the Saturday of Fathers' Day weekend. In cooperation with the Disabled American Veterans and other agencies,
See our Coming Events page for details. And we have a fun no-gift Christmas party in December.
Our membership is one of the largest in the state of Idaho. If you would like more information or have questions, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail us.
