Sandpoint Chapter 890
Who we are and
what we do:
The VVA Chapter 890 meets monthly every
2nd Tuesday of each month at 1800 hours in Sandpoint, Idaho at
the VFW Hall on the corner of Pine and Division streets.
The meetings last about an hour and anybody is welcome to
attend. We discuss many issues including helping those in need,
fundraisers to help veterans and their families and how our
chapter can help serve our community better. We help needy
veterans who have trouble keeping their electricity turned on
and have a lot of firewood for those who truly need a helping
hand at keeping warm. Grant money is also available to help
those down on their luck who need a boost. We even help veterans
get to their doctor appointments at the VA hospital and local
medical facilities when needed..
After the meeting adjourns we all enjoy some coffee and cookies
or whatever snacks happen to show up while we visit individually
and throw out ideas and plans to help each other and the over
5000 veterans residing in the Bonner County area. We are
committed to helping our veterans and their families and vow to
leave no veterans behind.
Major annual events include a huge garage sale, 4th of July
parade, Christmas dinner, summer picnic, and a host of other fun
activities to bring us together and tell people of our existence
and purpose. Members, associate members and families are all
welcome. The never-ending woodpile is a great place to get some
fresh air, light to moderate exercise and swap lies and tales to
fellow workers. You can choose to split the wood manually or
pull the lever on the hydraulic splitter! It’s fun for all.
Our membership is one of the largest in the state of Idaho and
growing annually. If you would like more information or have
questions, please don’t hesitate to call or email Russ Fankell,
Don Carr, Doug Darling or Ross Jackman. You can also leave an
email with Dave Darling, the webmaster for VVA 890 at
VVA890@yahoo.com .
Come join your fellow veterans, families and friends. It’s good
for you and those you help.
